very year iron deficiency in soybeans can be found. However this past year the severity was more of a concern, especially along the Solomon River Valley.

This deficiency is considered a physiological disease caused by the lack of iron in soybean plants. Iron is needed for the formation of chlorophyll, the green pigment found in plants.

Usually most symptoms is yellowing of leaves where veins on leaves where the veins remain green. Under severe cases, leaves become white or necrotic and plants can be stunted all season long.

Finding soybean varieties to plant with resistance is very important along with planting into warmer soil temperatures. Kansas State University evaluates and releases information on different soybean numbers to plant that have resistance. However, at this time, soybean seed supply is extremely tight so the best numbers to plant that are on this list may not be available.

It would be best to visit with your local Farmway representative soon as possible to figure what is available for your planting conditions.
