s many of you know, some new herbicide names and options have become available recently. In this article I am going to discuss a couple of new options available for corn and soybean production this next year.

SureStart is a corn herbicide developed by Dow Agrosciences as a "Convenient foundation for weed control in Roundup Ready systems." This product is labeled for application from pre-plant through 11 inch tall corn and can provide up to 6 weeks of residual activity for control of grass (foxtail species, barnyardgrass, crabgrass, and fall panicum) and broadleaf species (Pigweed species, kochia, marestail).

SureStart can be used to extend the post glyphosate application window or even tank mixed with your glyphosate application.

A similar post-emergent corn herbicide is Laudis. Laudis was developed by Bayer Crop Science and also designed to provide grass and broadleaf control. Laudis provides a different mode of action for suppressing weeds and may provide up to 6 weeks residual activity.

This product can be applied on corn up to the V8 growth stage and may be tank mixed with glyphosate or Liberty, along with other commonly used products.

Laudis is labeled to control grass species such as sandbur, seedling johnsongrass, shattergrass along with many others. For broadleaf control the Laudis label includes common sunflower, Morningglory species, pigweed species and velvetleaf, just to name a few.

There are also a couple of soybean herbicides I am going to discuss today.

The first is Sonic. Sonic is developed by Dow Agrosciences for use from pre-plant and up to 3 days after planting with a recommended post-emerge application of glyphosate 6 weeks after the Sonic application.

Some weeds labeled for control by Sonic include cocklebur, marestail and pigweed species.

A second soybean herbicide new to the market is Prefix. Prefix was developed by Syngenta as a soybean pre-emerge herbicide that can be applied about 2 weeks before planting and provide up to 5 weeks of residual coverage for both grass and broadleaf weed species, and then be followed with a glyphosate application.

Prefix is labeled for control of barnyardgrass, crabgrass and foxtail species along with common lambsquarter, eastern black nightshade, and pigweed control.

If you have any questions regarding these or any other herbicide products, feel free to contact your local Farmway Agronomy Salesperson.
